Re: D5300 Firmware update finally available, any hack?

I think we got a long wait ahead of us. Nikon released updated firmware for 4 or 5 cameras at once. And nobody ever seems to respond to these questions. The activity on this message board is almost non-existent.

Be careful with this firmware. Some people have had problems with the focus on Sigma lenses.

I really hope video limit restriction can somehow be removed, it's 30 minutes and for most users of DSLR's that's probably more than enough, however for those who don't want to spend extra $$$$ on another piece of equipment when their camera can already do a splendid job at it would make a world of difference. I understand that due to FAT32 limitations, removal of this limit may be useless since videos can only be up to 4Gb each, so in order to really make their DSLR into a video camera one would either need to somehow split the videos without interruption or implement NTFS system support on cameras. Is that even possible?

2k video at 24fps for D5300

Postby hornet900 » Tue Apr 26, 2016 1:41 pm

Dear sirs,
I believe that someone can make the D5300 shoot at 2k. If the CPU is not fast enough for 2k, then let the fps only at 24. If this camera can shoot 1080 50fps, then it also can can shoot 2k at 24fps. Can be done??? It would be perfect for film makers!!!!

2k = 2048x1080... so not a huge difference, especially when considering the h264 video compression

I think the biggest change that makes it absolutely prefect for "filmmakers" is continuous 10 bit raw video output... fortunately they are getting closer to this on older nikon d5100.

2k = 2048×1440 and it is better than HD because at the cropping 2,35:1 (on post) the 1080 becomes 817!!! Also 2k has small difference at the tv or monitors, but at cinema big screen, the difference is there... Even 2k, 2,5k or 4k can be done in D5300 if the fps stay at 24. What do you think??? It would be great!!! 1080 is dead for filming. I don't want to believe that GH4 (older than D5300) has so faster CPU that can shoot 4k. Please NikonHacker, think of it.
