 The other way to lower the data-rate is to crop the frames like magic lantern have done. I mostly shoot with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio on the 5D which records at around 65Mb/sec.

AWESOME WORK LEEGONG!!!

CAnt wait to finally use this hack...I have upgraded cameras several times since this started and now have a raw video setup but always kept my d5100 just incase it eventually worked out.

Please dont crop the recording in camera if possible
you can always crop in post but cant uncrop
(some of us need height and 16:9 dont work)

raw sensor data would be best
THANKS AGAIN

EDIIT
just saw you captured 1664x1100 size frames
that would be great! even if only a few seconds of recording at a time

I think that squig´s idea is the best solution in order to low the data-rate, crop the frames is not a big deal.

1664x936 (16:9) @ 24p raw data-rate is about 62MB/s which should be feasible on some Nikon DSLRs http://www.cameramemoryspeed.com/camera-tests/ A 16% post upscale and you're all good.

Great work Leegong!! Question, I have d3100 with Leegong's firmware hack, and am looking to upgrade. Should I go and get a used d7000 for $330 (preferably) or should I get a d5100 for around $250 used? Thanks for your time and can't wait for some sexy raw video!!

1: compressing the raw video. I dont know how much it is practical but as leegong has said it is possible to use NEF workflow (or other in camera workflows) for compressing the raw video frames. for shooting raw continuously the data rate should be decreased to something around 50-70 MB/s. I dont know the possibility of this solution because the raw compression is an intensive process and generates a lot of heat!! and maybe is not safe for shooting raw video in long times using this solution.

The best solution is RAW lossless compressing , in fact the backdoor code in firmware requests EXPEED hard core compressing LV RAW frame at first if my deoding
is correct , i'm going to find out why the compressing code inside backdoor doesn't work now .

Good idea !
It's really very easy to store fixed 16:9 or 2.35:1 cropped RAW , for 24fps 16:9 1664 x 936 RAW video frame , means 1664 x 936 x 1.5 bytes (12bits) x 24 fps about 55Mbytes/s .

Hi , all ,
At first , thanks so so much for you guys who encourage me greatly in this thread .
I'm sorry i can not answer all questions of you guys here :
1) I'm busy reading firmware , have no much time talking with non-technical topic .
2) i'm not good at english , it always take me lots of time typing good answer (suitable , polite , correct i think ) .
3) It's very hard finding out the logic relationship between different parts of codes inside firmware , after i took
long time tying answer here , the thinking was broken .
Sorry again , i didn't answer all questions of you doesn't mean your supprtings are not important , your supportings really encourage me so much , thanks again !

Regards ,
Leegong

I think the storing is continous instead of a few seconds , it depends on capacity of SD card .

Leelong are you suggesting that the camera records 24fps continous raw on a SD? OMG...
