Postby yildori » Tue Feb 12, 2013 4:09 am

It's possible automatically make several video files without camera stops? In other Brands it's possible.

Hi Yildori, it should be possible, but we currently do not support this.

Quick, curious question on this one. Given the FAT32 4gb limitation, what does that translate to in terms of video duration? I know that the hacked firmware removed the limit, but how would that come into play given the FAT32 limit?

The code does many checks before starting recording a movie. One is the free space of the card, another is max files size. The camera then looks at the video quality, frame rate, frame size and uses a max rate, to find how long it could record given that amount of space in the above step. Then it check this time is less than the marketing time limit.

The patch only removes the last step. Thus the system will in theory never record more than 4GB of data (but it's not really 4GB but small, but I've not found the exact value that's used), but the limit of files will appear less, if the compression is better than the expected worst case scenario.

So we can video for over an hour on lower resolutions, because that is still below the 4GB limit. However the original request here (if I understand correctly) was asking for the camera to auto re-start on limit being reached. Which should be do able. It's just not been done, yet.

D5100 Remote trigger timeout

Postby cjparker » Wed Apr 23, 2014 6:38 am

Hi

just found a super annoying "feature" of the d5100 firmware. When setting the camera to remote release mode, the maximum you can set the timeout to is 15 min before it defaults back to a normal shutter release. As we all know, monkeying around with lights and such can easily take up this time. Would be fantastic if we could remove this limit altogether or set it to something higher.

Thanks!

D5100_Multi selector center button

Postby Pappadi » Mon Aug 04, 2014 8:35 pm

The ability to instantly zoom in to a specified magnification level when viewing a photo, instead of pressing the Zoom In / Zoom Out buttons many times, can be very convenient and time saving. Similar to some of the other Nikon bodies this facility can perhaps be added to d5100 too if you can configure the center button of the multi-selector. At present the Custom Setting Menu -> Controls does not include Multi selector center button -> Playback mode -> Zoom on/off. If this facility can be added, while reviewing a photo, pressing this button will zoom in and pressing it again will zoom out back to the full image.
I think D7100 has this option.
Thank you Simeon and thanks to all of you for your great work.
Warm regards.

54mbps = about 10minutes
36mbos = about 14minutes
29mbps = about 18minutes
18mbps = about 29minutes

Formating the card exFAT (file size limit 128,000 terabytes) makes no difference to recordable time in the D5100
1080 24fps normal gives about 42 minutes

I wanted a longer recording time as I like setting up several cameras at a venue and just let them roll to mix in Premiere later (ideal for weddings & stuff).
