M51 with Mono D5100

Postby frostynixon » Wed Mar 18, 2015 12:41 am

Hello,

i wanted to share a M51 luminance image taken with a mono modded D5100 (NH firmware applied):
Image
The image is a fairly heavy crop.
I`m super happy with this camera now. The exposure time is 4hrs with a 8" F5 Newton on a Skywatcher EQ6

Thanks for watching :)

PS. I`m advertising this project as much as i can :)

Hello,
This is surely one of the best Whirlpool Galaxy I've ever seen!!I suppose that you could push the ISO a bit higher, such as ISO 320, to make sure that you are getting an optimal gain a bit lower than 1e/adu,according to @astronomer's sensor studies.

Thanks for your comment Jerome! Tbh i didn`t have a look at the e-/adu graphs yet and i`m also not fully sure about their implications. But thanks for the information!
