D3200 hacked video bitrate comparison

Postby Wolfirrlicht » Mon Feb 02, 2015 11:57 am

So here is a D3200 bitrate hack comparison comparing the video quality with in-camera noise reduction on/off and NQ(original High Quality bitrate[24mbit] and HQ(the hacked[64mbit] bitrate). The 'POST' refers to the image been thru color correction, software noise reduction and sharpening. The camera was set to NEUTRAL(sharpening 0, contrast -3, brightness 0, saturation -3, hue 0). Kit lens (18-55) used. Shutter settings I can't remember but I think the ISO is 1600-3200-ish. White balance is 'Direct Sunlight'. Lightning was done with my 23.6' monitor set to max brightness. Have any question feel free to ask.

Thanks for sharing this info! I shoot stock footage with a D3200, and noticed it has a lot of noise and low-light flicker show up in lower light and higher ISOs. Have you noticed this? And if so, is the higher Bit Rate hack a possible solution? I found a post at creative cow about this issue, https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/280/9265 but all their solutions so far involve post filtration. These guys on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yI6LgRRRwrw have an example of how they fixed their footage in post, and it doesn't look too shabby! I'd like to capture more dynamic range and solve the issue inside the camera before post. You think a hacked firmware could correct our D3200 video low-light flicker woes?
