Running a Nikon camera on 12V in the field?

Postby D80 » Sat Jul 20, 2013 1:19 pm

Hello

Have anyone here created a cable that can replace a EH-5a power supply? The EH-5a power supply needs 115V/230V to give 9V output. But from a 12V car battery in the field, it would be nice with just a step down circuit like a 7809 power regulator or similar. Have anyone here already done this mod?

A 12V DC to 230 AC converter to EH-5a and out with 9V seems like not a very good idea. Its way much better to only convert 12V to 9V and feed the camera. I can cut my cord off my EH-5a to get the proprietary connector to Nikon D80 or a EP-5B battery replacement to fit my D600.

Any ideas?

I have seen such modification using EP-5B/5A and LM2596 DC-DC adapter for D800, but not in english. It works.
