I have the same External Power "Battery" and its 9vdc converter. It does NOT work on my D800. Output voltages are correct and verified with my scope and DVM. The D800 does not even recognize that the unit is in place and powered up. It is very interesting that if you check the voltages on a genuine Nikon EN-EL15 (made by Sony and others) the unloaded voltage from the two outside contacts labeled;+ -; the voltages is ~8 vdc. If you check from the negative to the others you will find that one of the outputs is ~5vdc.........

That was very strange, the in the link in my previous post was for a D800 and that works. Do you have any idea why your voltage regulator doesn't work? Have you tried to add a capacitor in series to eliminate eventual ripple?

Don't have a clue as the unit "seems" to be outputting the correct voltage. I believe that the problem is "battery recognition" by the camera. It expects to see "valid" battery information, ie, serial number, charge state.... and this unit can not provide that data....

That would explain why Nikon feels justified charging so much for AC adapters... I wonder if anyone is willing to take one apart and see if it has a chip in there?

EDIT: Of course, I'm not saying they should charge so much :handgestures-thumbdown:
