Last 2 layers of PCB revealed

Postby astronomer » Thu Mar 31, 2016 5:32 pm

Finally I got the inner most 2 layers out from the D5100 main PCB.

It was really hard to sand it down at such thinness. So I decided to use chemical approach with hydrochloric acid and hydrogen peroxide as oxident. The enchant mix ratio can be found online.

This expose the inner layer through the transparent prepreg/FR-4.

Thus, the main PCB is made using 10 layer HDI stack-up, with layer 4-7 constructed using through-hole vias. Then layer 1-3 and 8-10 using laser micro-drilling vias. Layer 5-6 contains some of the missing signals and a lot of power rails.

Finally!

That's amazing, and you all are amazing. It is incredible to see how you guys do things. You remind me of the work done during WWII when one side finds the tech of another.

Completed some tracing for missing connections. I've updated the hardware wikipage.

Anyone interested should look at the TX19 Firmware A.

New circuit tracing uploaded to FTP. Developers please take a look.

Also update all connector pin numbering and missing trace for top connector.

Power Rails

Postby astronomer » Sun Apr 10, 2016 1:14 pm

I've made some update to wiki regarding power rails.

Most of the power sources and IC supplies are complete. After the power rails are traced, I got better understanding the functions of some unknown ICs. And most of them are related to power regulation. There's one more interesting chip and now it appears to be an inverter/boost to drive the fluorescence tube for back screen TFT LCD.

The only thing that's constantly powered on is the TMP19. The EXPEED/EI-155/RAM/NOR Flash (Firmware B) side is only powered on by Firmware A, invoked upon button press. That's why the memory data will lost once the camera goes to sleep. And the behavior of dark current enable tool.
