Maybe a "Donate hall of fame" would be great?

Postby D80 » Mon Feb 24, 2014 5:31 am

Hello

I suggest a donation top 10 list where you can choose to be with or not. If I donate 1 bitcoin and I am the highest donator I should be on the highest post on the list. Maybe this is a good idea or not?
I just wanted to contribute to this project with some ideas to this site.

(sorry for spelling and gramatic errors)

I think what he meant is to keep a "hall of fame" sort of thing for the donators. In that case, those who wish to be in that. That'd appeal other people to donate too.

What I've seen work on other sites is to optionally offer a rank/title that shows up under your name.

I think it would be a good thing here, to recognize those who have donated if they like.

Don't think such rank/hall bring anything except for donators egos. This is strange, as because "donate"-button is here to help project and not for donators recognition. And funds is not major problem. Most important is attract more developers.

I would think a counter that shows how much is donated and a few goals would make the incentive higher to donate.

Look at how blender did this on the past, when trey needed funds to buy out the software to make it open source.

coderat is right on all fronts here. The donations have never been, and never will be, to accelerate development. They're just there to reduce the risk to the people who volunteer their time and equipment. They have been invaluable in this, as developers have been able to recover from experiments that caused damage to personal gear. Without the donation, the developer would probably (rightfully!) left the project.

Then what can we, as photographers who are hoping for improvements to our cameras, do to accelerate development? At the moment, it's miles behind magic lantern.
