D3100 Patched firmware Time Restrictions Won't Work

Postby Enderdragon » Sun Dec 09, 2018 12:35 am

So I have a D3100 in here and patched a 1.02 firmware. I checked /Change Time Based Video Restrictions to 17:28 /Non-brand Battery /ISO/Shutter Lv Patch /Beta - Video 1080 HQ 64mbps Bit-rate.
And the problem is the Lv limit is still 30s and most fustrating it now can only record videos with 8:57 mins ???????
I tried different setting like Video HQ 29Mbps with playback so on but sadly It won't work either.
I unchecked Change Time Based Video Restrictions to 17:28 and updated again now it is still 8:57
Using the original firmware make it back to 10:00 mins,WHAT IS HAPPENING????????
Maybe be I am in different time or it was just because I am using traditional Chinese.
If anyone can fix this bug it will be much appreciate.
Sorry for broken English.

The video code path uses a unit32 to track file offset into the movie file.

Max unit32 is 0xffffffff which is 4,294,967,295 bytes. Which is 34,359,738,360 bits, divided by 64,000,000 bits per seconds is 536 seconds, which is 8 * 60 (480) + 56 ~8:57

Also the D3100 uses CBR encoding. so after 8:56 there is no ability to know where to put the "extra" data, so that is the limit of your recording time.

So ether enjoy the higher encoding bits, and record many short segments. OR use a lower bitrate, and record up to 17:28 which in itself is the limit of the timing code using an int16

Oh thanks a lot for explaining. So it is the 32 bit limited the time count. I think it would be better to add a reminder in the patching website that state 8:57 time limit for high bit rate video.

the major limiting factor is the file offset being 32bit, thus 4gb max file size.
