Hi,
First of all, thank you for the great job you do to improve nikon cameras!
I don't know if this thread is the right place for this, feel free to move this post in the appropriate section.
I have a problem on the D610, related to the "true dark curent" patch. The problem is very reproductible and is present with both patches tested (I'm not calling it a bug, but it looks like it).
I tested the menu based patch with the online tool (FW uptade using patched D610_0101 firmware) and the USB tool DarkCurentEnabler (found here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2319#p16478), and the problem is the exactly the same with both hacks.
Here is the problem:
when dark curent is enabled (via USB or via menu), after 8 shots, the camera freezes, no button has any effect, even the power switch doesn't turn the camera off (I waited for 5 min just to see if it was really frozen). I have to remove the battery to power down the camera.
On reboot, everything is back to normal (and dark curent is off naturally)
of course, I tried different metering off timer (from 1 min to infinity), and I changed every menu I could. The only change that had an effect was changing from 14 to 12 bits, but the effect was "corrupted images" (1 sec exposure with a quarter of the picture burnt while the rest is bright magenta with vertical white bands)... and the 8 shots limitation was still here.
This "freeze" happens when the camera is triggered from release button, internal intervallometer and external intervallometer (shutter speed tested: 1/4000, 1/50, 10", 30" and 1 min with external trigger). In burst mode, at 1/4000 I can shoot the full 14 frame burst, but if I shoot 3 by 3, as soon as the camera has recorded 8 pictures, it freezes.
Is this a known issue? Did anyone encounter this behaviour before? (mybe it's related to my camera...)
Have I done something wrong?
Is there a special setting to do apart from the long metering timer?
Is there any hope of fixing this, or should I sell my D610 and buy a D600 to get a good astrophotograpy camera?
thank you!
