Hey astronomer,

Could this great tool work on D5200 as well? Has anyone tested this? D3200 uses the same chips/sensor AFAIK. I can give it a go, just let me know if there's a reason why it shouldn't work.

Thanks!

Hi.

Patched my D800E. Noticed that on my last photo shoot round LR had problems reading 20% of the files. Simply stated that they were corrupted.

Couldn't neither open them in Capture NX.

This could simply be a bad SD card for all that I know though.

Anyone else experienced this?

Hello and thanks for this tool.

I'm currently testing it on a D90 with firmware 2.0

Now all pictures have a magenta tone on them. It's expected as I read in the forum posts.

Also, I've been able to check hot pixels, and it has a lot lesser than my previous camera, the D5100.

I'd like to if is there any way to patch the firmware to have this applied forever or at least switchable.

Thanks, again.

Hi astronomer

My name is Francois and I am very much interested in your wonderful and fantastic software in an engineering context, though I am not an engingeer nor a night sky photographer but a complete amateur. :)
Compared to Nikon's official uncompressed or loss-less compressed NEFs, your software can apparently

- produce an offset (at around 600 ADU with D800) and

- delete disapointing gaps in the histogram due to the WB pre-conditioning as well as wide aperture compensation technique

while hacked NEF's

- black level is still at zero ADU level and

- color balance is not under control any more.

Now I am wondering what your software is exactly telling cameras to do ?
As regards the WB pre-conditioning, I guess that the software is simply cancelling the WB pre-conditioning programme.
How about the offset ? Is the software telling cameras to add some voltage ?
If it is not the case, I expect Nikon's EXPEED programmed as follows:

1) boost analogue charges coming from sensels by some voltage corresponding to an offset

2) AD-convert an analogue range corresponding from the offset to [FWC + the offset] by 14 bit

3) creat a NEF file with that range, thus deleting the darkest range from zero to the offset

4) So logically, your software changes the ADC step into the conversion of an analogue range corresponding from zero to FWC

What's your judge ?
As far as black level and color balance are concerned, is there any solution to normalize these problems ?

Many thanks to you and your software.

Best,
Francois

Hello astronomer
I have a Nikon D4s but I cannot run your firmware (it says my model is not supported)... The only thing it does is to have the extra pink pixels and rows.
Hope one day...

Hello,

New member here and I am wondering if the firmware can be temporarily applied in a manner that allows the camera to be powered on and off. I ask this because I will be in the field and not have accept to my laptop in order to apply the firmware, is there a way to upload the firmware without a laptop in the field? I want to apply this hack to my D800 and D4.

Thanks,

Matt
