The d7000 has tons of moire which is a clear indicator of lineskipping. It also has very poor highlight handling, but I think that's more of a problem with the processing engine because the nikon jpg converter doesn't seem to work as good as other raw converters.

Yes, i agreed with you , but i have no idea about how it is clipped here , or maybe additional MSB needed for pixels binning are discarded directly .
a1ex wrote: On Canons, 5D3 uses 3x3 pixel binning, and all other cameras use column binning and line skipping. However, that doesn't cause any clipping issues - the data is already scaled down.

For digital addition , more additonal MSBs are must have ,
for analogue binning , AD converting range must be increased , or analogue gain
of amplifier for AD converter must be decreased , i'm very curious why no clipping issues on canon ,
alter gain of the ADTG preamp ? if in some specific case , highlight overflow occurs even gain of the ADTG preamp is adjusted ,
is there highlight artifact similar to the direct DNG converting you made in previous post ?

I think that highlight overflow may occur in still photo shooting , but one thing is different :
data is clipped to maximum white , it's similar to 3698 in this aera in a sense,
is there highlight artifacts in such kind of case if convert it with View NX ?
however i convert this LV raw into tiff and jpg normally with MATLAB , strong highlight artifacts in that aera . :(

If no highlight over flow , no artifacts , for example LV__V3_05.raw here

When I downloaded the a1ex DNG file I did not get this effect in the image. In fact it is normal and the histogram dont shows a strange behavior.

EDIT: Never mind, sorry. I downloaded the "corrected" file

EDIT 2: Sorry if this is just spam, I just want to help with something, maybe this could help a little for understanding the pink highlights.

I follow this thread for progress on weekly basis and it is truely amazing to see the level of thought put into this project.

I wonder what the ultimate perspective is with this ? - What is the highest raw output size/mbps that can be achieved and captured (by any output method) on nikon cameras ?

According to histogram gaping spotted by astronomer , only 8 bits valid data ,
according to highlight overflow spotted by Alex, 2 MSB bits are missing , then valid 10bits bitdepth ?
EDIT : anyway highlight problem is an evidence : current LV RAW dumping has more than 8bits .
No idea about why there is scaling here, Liveview AE controlling ? if so , maybe the highlight overflow
is due to no input for chip4001 in current patch , thus no way for camera to calculate correct AE info .

I realized that although got LV RAW succesfully , but the normal progress (loop) of LV stream processing is broken ,
thus no TFT displaying , no correct AE controlling , no contrast AF detection/controlling , so i have to find out how to
restore normal LV stream processing while/after save LV raw on SD card , my gut feeling , a hard work , it could be as
difficult as finding LV RAW , long long way to go .
I thought i would be able to release the patch soonly , but i was wrong :( :( :(

Once the normal processing is restored , maybe highlight overflow will disappear automatically , meanwhile contrast detection AF
and TFT displaying will be ok .
