Getting RAW Video

hey guys, nice progress here!

as some of you might remember, i switched over to the apertus/axiom team, where we are developing an opennsource 4k raw camera.
with some help from al3ks from the magic lantern team, there was a concept found, for transmitting "experimentalexperimental raw" over hdmi.

maybe this idea/code is usefull for your problem as well, as it uses an 1080p stream to record raw video to an external recorder, which thinks its recording a normal hdmi stream. the signal later gets decoded an becomes useable in the post.

the video and all of its parameter are still live viewable, so one can see the image which gets recorded

Welcome to NikonHacker! I've been following Axiom quite a while and I've seen that concept by packing 10bit/12bit into 422 or 444 HDMI.
And I had discussed with leegong a long time ago. The problem is, I doubt, the software code to do the bit shift, reformat and packing is unable to keep up with the frame rate. The Expeed FR80 CPU is only running something around 100~200MHz iirc. The pixel rate is roughly 54MPixel/s at 30FPS, and you cannot do with that with only 2 instructions.

This is where it differs from the Zynq SoC you are using where you can program the entire stream processing flow into FPGA part. There might be some similar hardware accelerator on EXPEED doing these type of stuff. But without a hardware manual, we are out of luck activating it.

maybe there would be one solution : hacking the external recorder to save RAW data to ssd!!!!!!!!!!
this is dual pain in the butt!

Leegong, I know that the progress is slow and that other people have already said the following to you, but I'd really like to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH to not only you, but also those who are taking time out of their lives to help you on this RAW video hack for the D5100. You are in the process of transforming my camera into something I can be proud to use, although I shouldn't discount the bitrate hacks from the past. The thought of having 12-bit RAW video with a Flaat_11 or Nikon Cineflat picture style on board is a true gift and gives it years of mileage.

Everything that you are doing is a very big help and I'm sure that everyone wants you to know that clearly.
