D5100 full video out via HDMI

Postby leegong » Sat Nov 01, 2014 6:10 am

Just found two data structures , when HDMI resolution is 1920x1080 ,
these two structures are responsible for resizing LiveView stream frame into
1456x1024 and 1428x950 frame respectively ,
i suspect that they might be the reason of "shrinked video out" via HDMI ,
however i'm not very sure about it , could anybody observe width and height
of HDMI video output by D5100 ?
If my guessing is correct , it will be easy to modify these data structures for
full video out via D5100 HDMI .

The problem for hdmi testing the d5100 is copy protection. I have the bm shuttle intensity and it does not "see" the d5100.
Why on earth a device meant for aquisition would imbed copy protection is beyond me.

Hi Leegong,

Thanks so much for looking at this. I've finally managed to get my D5100 inputting to my BlackMagicDesign Intensity Pro, and spotted this scaling issue. I can only seem to get my D5100 to send 720p video out (even though HDMI is set to 1080i) so my pixel counts aren't perfect, but at that resolution I get a size of 950x634 at 720, which proportionally at 1080 would be a pretty close match to 1428x950

I've attached my screenshot at 720p - it might not be exatly pixel for pixel as the screen is 1280x1024 and Gnome may add some window borders onto the gstreamer output, but hopefully it will be good enough help.

I'll see if I can get 1080i input in the coming days and attempt to get a capture like that on a larger display, or dump some frames to disk, so I can do an exact count.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

Dorian
