Nikon Patch v1.10

Version 1.10 of the Online Patch Tool is released:
-Added support for non-brand batteries for the D3100
-Fixed the D5100 patch so the non-brand battery looks like a battery not an external power supply.

Warning:What we currently are unsure of is how non-brand batteries report low power level status they work correctly, but you should only install/upgrade new firmware on full charged brand batteries.

Update: Testing has shown that both the D3100 & D5100 brand & non-brand batteries appear to correctly show power level, and not allow updates under low power levels. But I'd still use brand batteries for updates.

Is it possible Metering with any mf lens on d5100 or it is limited by the hardware?

I just ran two non-approved batteries through their use in one of those battery grips. They went in and registered fine without any objection from the camera. The battery icon appeared as usual, or as it would have. I had installed the previous patch earlier so it did at one time show the plug icon.

After the power wore down, the battery icon reflected the drop in power and eventually turned red on the last bar. The camera then locked up from taking pictures or going in to live view.
I then removed both batteries, not replacing either, but rather emptying the battery bay to get a fresh start.
I then installed two more non-Nikon approved batteries and witnessed the green LED turn on briefly, indicating that some sort of function remained of the battery check.
The camera powered on without any objection or difference in functionality.

That would be cool. I'm still on 1.8 I think, and would like to get an idea on what has changed since then?
